Vacation in Denmark, 2001.
Natasha, Lykke, Helle, Mathilde, Troels and Kirsten in Legoland During the summer of 2001 we spent a couple of months in Denmark for vacation, visiting, and work. The first evening after we arrived, I went to a 100 year anniversary party for my old school, Ry Mølleskole. All the people who had ever graduated from the school were invited and more than a 1000 showed up. Although I hadn't missed my friends from primary school much, it was surprisingly wonderful to see them again.

Another thing I had been looking very much forward to was taking my kids to Legoland. Unfortunately, Kamila was a little sick that day, but instead we brought her cousin Mathilde, and we all had a great day. Both Natasha and Mathilde enjoyed the thrills thoroughly. Legoland is one of the greatest places to take young kids, because it is perfect for them and at the same time interesting and enjoyable for adults.

We spent many of the lovely, long summer evenings in Denmark walking with the kids in my parents' new neighborhood in Aarhus. Their house is almost neighboring the Queen's Summer Palace, a national forest, and a botanical garden with walking paths criss-crossing it all.

The beach is also within walking distance from the house and left Dionicia and Kamila are studying their first jellyfish.

Kamila is a fearless climber, taking after her father. The photographer was much more nervous.

The Danish weather was favorable most of the time and we spent a lot of time in the garden. After a month there the garden looked as if it belonged to a kindergarten.

The little pond in the garden was quickly converted to a romantic little sandbox.

We also got a swimming pool and a submarine on sale.

We had many friends over to see the Bolivian kids. Among others, their Danish great-grandmother, Karen.

The exuberance of photos is due to the electronic camera that my mother's school lent her during the summer vacation. It is wonderful to have photos at close to zero marginal costs and instantaneously.

To the right Helle is watching Mathilde, Natasha, and Kamila enjoying the boat trip from Ry to Himmelbjerget. Himmelbjerget means "Sky Mountain" and is one of the highest points in Denmark. It is only 147 meters above sea level, though, and hardly even deserves to be called a hill.

One of the important reasons for spending several months on vacation in Denmark was for Natasha and Kamila to get to know the Danish part of their family. To the right are all my grandmother's great-grandchildren together at a party in Vejle: Natasha, Mathilde, Ida, Malthe, Marie and me holding the sleeping Kamila.

My parents are completely redoing their house and garden and we had some nice days with the whole family working together in the garden. My father was very happy that he could convince us to work for him all day instead of going to the wild animal park with the kids.

Osvaldo and I went to Kiel for two weeks during the summer to work at Kiel Institute of World Economics and left the kids in Denmark with their grandparents. The kids were happy and my parents were also very happy to get a chance to get really close to their grandchildren without the parents around. They took them out a lot to museums and activities. To the left, Kamila and Natasha is enjoying the trampolins in Djurs Sommerland together with their uncle Troels.

Esteban & Osvaldo in Tivoli in Copenhagen By coincidence Osvaldo's brother, Esteban, who usually lives in Bogota, Colombia came to visit us in Denmark on his way to a conference in Norway. Here are the two brothers in Tivoli in Copenhagen.
