While I was pregnant with Kamila, I
got a strong craving for quilting, something I had never tried before, so I ordered five
books about quilting on Amazon.com (my favourite bookstore), and started making "Owl
collection." It was inspired by and intended as a supplement to my owl collection.
While I think the design is nice, the machine quilting was a disaster, and I decided to do
all quilting by hand on future projects.

My second quilt project was made as
a farewell present for our good friends Claudia and Miguel Urquiola, who left for United
States to work there for some years. The idea was to remind them to come back to La Paz,
because we will miss them a lot.

The third quilt project was supposed
to be an improvement over the second, but the mountain Illimani turned out quite wrong. It
was made as a present for my sister at her 30th birthday. She had never been in Bolivia,
so she didn't know what Illimani really looks like.

This quilt was made for the
inaugeration of IISEC's new library, which was never inaugerated so
I kept it for myself.

Finally
satisfied with my La Paz quilt, this one was for myself. But in a
weak moment I sold it to my mother, so now I'm without La Paz quilt
again.

I must have
had too much time on my hand, because this quilt has been incredibly
time consuming.

In contrast,
this quilt is based on a batik painting I bought in Senegal, so it
was quite quick. It matches everything in my bedroom perfectly, so
even though I had it packed for a rather lucrative sale, I regretted
it and put it back up on my bedroom wall.

The Winnie
Pooh Window was made as a gift for my newborn nephew, Kristian. If
my sister paints the other windows in his room blue, it may end up
looking pretty good.

My kids' rooms
are both decorated in aquatic themes, so these two Fish Quilts fit
in perfectly. They are both based on Malaysian batiks, which got a
second life.
