Consultant at the World Bank in
Washington, 1997
Due to Steen Jorgensen
and Zafiris Tzannatos' extremely good timing, I spent the three best months of my
pregnancy as a short term consultant in the World Bank. |
Again to my luck, the
Human Development Department had organized a departmental weekend trip to Coolfont the
first weekend after I arrived, so I quickly met a lot of great people. In my mind, the
best thing about the World Bank is the diversity of its human resources. The problem is
that it is almost impossible to remember all the strange names. On the top photo, you see,
among others, Osvaldo and Diana on guitars and Hussein on drums, spending some waiting
time in the parking lot. The car radio used up the batteries on Diana's old car, so when
we were finally ready to go home, the car wouldn't start. Diana was the party animal of
the HDD department and she organized several great parties in her aunt's house, which was
ideal for the purpose. With all the trees, the swimming pool, the tennis court, and the
shady terraces, that place seemed to escape the heat and humidity that made the rest of
Washington pretty uncomfortable during the summer. |
