Family trip to Norway, New Year 1997

One of our wedding presents was a skiing trip to Norway with the whole family over the New Year.

Here you see Osvaldo on his first day of skiing, and his first day in 25 degrees of frost.

Osvaldo's first day on skis
Lykke on snowboardLykke has permanently changed from skis to snowboard. It is an absolutely superior way of moving yourself down a (snowcovered) mountain.

The lifts are a nightmare, however, as are places where the mountain is not sloping downwards. Then you are at the mercy of skiiers with poles to pull you forward.

Helle also tried the snowboard. She didn't find it quite as divine, however.

I agree the first day can be a little tough on your knees, hands, and behind (I broke my left arm the first time I tried), but the returns after the first day are enourmous.

Helle on snowboard
Anders on skisMy father stuck to his old style.

My mother, however tried the snowboard, and she was actually very good right from the beginning. She could become a famous snowboarder, if she continued. It is definitely unusual to find 49 year old women on snowboard.

On the boat home from Norway Here we are on our way home on the boat "Color Festival". From the left: Per, Lissy, Osvaldo, Lykke, Kirsten, Heinrich, Brian, Anny, Mia, Helle in front, and AC as the photographer.
